Located in northwestern Hunan Province, Wulingyuan is made up of three scenic spots:  Zhangjiajie,  Suoxiyu  and  Tianzi Mountain.  It is famous for  rare landscape featuring quartz, sandstone, ridges, peaks and canyons.  In 1992,  Wulingyuan  was admitted into Directory of World Natural Heritage by the UN. With the approval of Ministry of Forestry,  Zhangjiajie  became a national forest park  in 1982,  while Suoxiyu  and  Tianzi mountain  became  nature reserves in 1982 and 1984 respectively.
