Dinghu mountain  is  located  in  the northeastern suburbs of  Zhaoqing City,  Guangdong Province.  In 1956,  a nature reserve  with the same name  was set up  with  a total area of  1,140 ha..  It is  the first nature reserve established in China. In 1979, the Dinghu Nature Reserve was integrated into the international Man and Biosphere Reserve Metwork. 

Dinghu Mountain is situated at the Tropic of Cancer along which most of the area is deserts or dry prairies, with the sole exception of Dinghu mountain  where  grows  an  immense  virgin  forest   which  wins  the reputation  of  "Oasis  along  the  Tropic  of  Cancer". There are large varieties of vegetation here,  and plants and animals resources are rich with a total of more than 1,700 species of  higher plants growing here, and large quantities of birds, beasts, and reptiles living here.
