The orchid  belongs to  the  Genus Cymbidium  in the  Family  Orchidaceae.  It is an
evergreen perennial root herb,  and one of  the traditionally favored flowers  in china.
It has long history of cultivation, always being regarded as a treasure among flowers.
It  has  gracefully  shaped  evergreen  leaves, with erect inflorescence. Yet  its sweet
scent is the true reason for its fame. 
There are many different species of orchids, which can be classified into 2 categories 
according to Chinese tradition:  those with one stem and one flower which are called 
"Lan",  and those with one stem and multi flowers which are called "Hui". The orchid 
can also be classified into  spring orchid,  summer orchid,  autumn orchid and  winter 
orchid according to the blooming season.  Spring orchid  and  summer orchid mainly 
grow in the mountainous areas of Central China & South China, some autumn orchid 
and winter orchid  also  grow  in these areas.  Fujian & Guangdong Province  mainly 
have broadleaved autumn orchid and spring orchid, as well as some winter orchid.
