Crested ibis (Nipponia nippon)

The crested  ibis  is among  the famous  endangered  precious and  rare animals in the world. There were only 7 of them in Yangxian County of Shanxi Province when they were found in 1981.  The reserve with total area of  4,130 hectares has been set up  in Yangxian County of Shanxi Province  to protect and breed  the crested ibis artificially  and conduct scientific research on it. At present, the population of crested ibis in the wild has increased to more than 30 and the crested ibis has been listed as the first-grade wild animal protected by the state.
The  crested  ibis  is  included  in  Genus  Nipponia  nippon  of  Family Threskiornithidae under Ciconiformes.
